Energy efficency classes of unit coolers

A+ is the best energy efficiency class of an unit cooler. New classificiation is in force since last year.

If you want to select an energy efficent DX evaporator the energy efficiency classification (EEC) gives a simple indication. The EEC is defined by three criterias:
  • Wet capacity at standard condition 2 (te= -8°C; DT1= 8K)
  • Power of the fans
  • Fin spacing
By dividing the evaporator capacity through the power of the fans and correcting this value by the fin spacing you get 'R' a dimensionless value. According to the value of R the evaporator the classes are assigned. Good energy efficiency classes can be achieved by the following aspects:
  • High capacity coils (e.g. inner grooved tubes)
  • Energy saving fans (e.g. EC technology)
 You can find great energy efficiencies classes in our FHV/T, DLK/T and DHN series.  But defrost isn't taken into account. You can defrost in many ways, not only by electric heaters. A classification of brine defrost systems, or water spray systems in case of energy efficiency would be nearly impossible. Additionally the operating conditions and dehumidification of the coil block play an important role when dimensioning defrost.
